Palestinska fotbollslandslaget möter Irak, och brasilianska lag visar solidaritet med Palestina

Maan News skriver att Palestina och Irak kommer att mötas i en vänskapsmatch i fotboll i norra Irak i veckan. Det blir den första internationella match som spelas i Irak sedan kriget började 2003.
”The match comes in a political and sports context, and is an expression of the Palestinian commitment to breaking the siege of Iraq and to celebrating with Iraqis the departure of American forces from Iraqi cities,” Jibril Rajub, head of the Palestinian football association, told reporters in Ramallah.
The Asian Football Confederation och FIFA stödjer matchen.
”This match is the first step towards ending the ban imposed by FIFA on international matches in Iraq because of the situation our country was going through,” said Hmud från Irakiska fotbollsförbundet.
I artikeln står också att två populära brasilianska lag, Rio De Janeiro’s Flamengo och Sao Paulo’s Corinthian, skall spela på Västbanken i höst, i solidaritet med det palestinska folket. Detta kommer jag naturligtvis bevaka och rapportera om. Det vore fantastiskt!
The exhibition match between Rio De Janeiro’s Flamengo and Sao Paulo’s Corinthians will take place between 15-17 September in the West Bank’s only regulation-size stadium, said Palestine Football Association secretary-general Sami Makawi.
Brazilians support the Palestinian cause and know how much Palestinians love Brazilian football, added Makawi.
Israel’s ambassador to Brazil issued a personal invitation to the teams to play in Israel, aI s well, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Yariv Ovadia. He added Israel hopes the teams will accept the offer.
